My 1 Year Revival 🔥 Lesson 5
Lesson 5 — Be Controlled (Filled with the Holy Spirit)
Texts: Ephesians 5:18–21; John 16:7–15; Galatians 5:16–25
Principle: The Spirit’s filling is God’s design for daily life and ministry.
Precept: Yield to the Spirit’s control; walk by the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
Cohesive Overview:
To be “filled with the Spirit” means to be under His control—mind, motives, and mouth. The command is continual: “Be being filled” (Eph. 5:18). The Spirit glorifies Jesus, convicts of sin, and empowers obedience. He produces in us what we cannot manufacture—love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance (Gal. 5:22–23).
How do we cooperate? Confess known sin quickly; surrender your will; ask in faith; step in obedience. The Spirit’s leading is not vague mysticism but often Scripture-directed common obedience performed with God-dependent confidence. As we abide, He prunes; as we yield, He purifies—contrition, purification, separation, sanctification, revelation, benediction (your earlier sequence) mark His gracious work.
Expect conflict. The flesh wars against the Spirit. But the promise stands: walk by the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the flesh. The Spirit magnifies Christ’s presence, enlightens the Word, emboldens witness, and harmonizes relationships (note how Spirit-filling in Eph. 5 overflows into marriage, family, and work in Eph. 5–6).
Keys of Submission:
Confession — clear the channel.
Consecration — present yourself to God.
Calling — ask to be filled.
Compliance — obey the next nudge.
Community — sing, submit, and serve one another.
Practice This Week:
Morning prayer: “Spirit of God, fill me; control my thoughts, tongue, and tasks today.”
Identify one recurring flesh pattern; counter with a specific Spirit-led action.
End each day with a brief examen: Where did I resist? Where did I yield?
Declaration: “I am under the Spirit’s control; His fruit grows as I yield.”
