THE WALK

Lesson 2 — Walk Praying (Talking to the Lord)

Opening Question

Do you believe the Lord hears you when you pray?

• Always

• Sometimes

• I’m not sure

• I don’t feel like He does

Your answer reveals how you view your relationship with God

Opening Prayer

“Father, teach us to pray.

Help us to understand that prayer is not just words, but a real conversation with You.

Help us to believe that You hear us and desire to fellowship with us.

Draw us closer to You through prayer.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”

Lesson Scripture — The Lord’s Prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”

I. What Is Walking in Prayer?

Walking in prayer is a

daily, ongoing conversation with the Lord.

It is not just speaking words—

 It is fellowship with God

 1 Thessalonians 5:17

“Pray without ceasing.”

 Jeremiah 33:3

“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”

 Philippians 4:6

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”

 Prayer is not an event—

 It is a

relationship

II. Why Do We Need to Pray?

If God already knows everything—why pray?

1. Prayer Builds Relationship

 Matthew 6:6

“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet… and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.”

2. Prayer Shows Dependence

 John 15:5

“…for without me ye can do nothing.”

3. Prayer Aligns Us with God’s Will

 Matthew 6:10

“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done…”

4. Prayer Invites God Into Our Life

 James 4:2

“…ye have not, because ye ask not.”

5. Prayer Brings Peace and Strength

 Philippians 4:7

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

6. God Hears You

 1 John 5:14

“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:”

 Psalm 34:17

“The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.”

Prayer connects you to God relationally

III. The Pattern of Prayer (The Lord’s Prayer Explained)

Jesus gave us a pattern to follow:

1. Worship — “Our Father”

 Matthew 6:9

“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.”

Begin by recognizing who God is

2. Submission — “Thy Will Be Done”

 Matthew 6:10

“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”

Align your heart with God’s will

3. Provision — “Give Us This Day”

 Matthew 6:11

“Give us this day our daily bread.”

 Bring your daily needs

4. Confession — “Forgive Us”

 Matthew 6:12

“And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.”

 Keep your relationship clean

5. Protection — “Lead Us Not”

 Matthew 6:13

“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil…”

Walk in daily help and victory

 Prayer is not complicated—

 It is

talking communication in a relationship with God

IV. The 6 Keys of a Strong Prayer Life

1. Priority — Put God First

Mark 1:35

“And in the morning… he went out… and there prayed.”

2. Persistent — Don’t Stop Praying

“Pray without ceasing.”

 Luke 18:1

“…that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;”

3. Purpose — Seek His Will

 Matthew 6:10

“Thy will be done…”

 1 John 5:14

“…if we ask any thing according to his will…”

4. Plan — Recognize Hindrances

“For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous… but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.”

5. Place — Have a Time and Place

 Matthew 6:6

“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet…”

6. Process — Talk with God Clearly

 Philippians 4:6

“…let your requests be made known unto God.”

 Simple flow:

• Praise
