THE WALK 👣

Lesson 11 — Walk by Faith

Opening Question

When facing difficulties, what do you rely on most?

• What I can see

• What I can understand

• What others tell me

• What God has promised

👉 Your answer reveals whether you are walking by sight or by faith

Opening Prayer 🙏

“Father, teach us to trust You completely.

Help us to walk by faith and not by sight.

When circumstances seem impossible, help us to believe Your promises.

Strengthen our faith and help us keep our eyes on You.

In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.”

Lesson Scripture 📖

📖 Matthew 14:28-31

“And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?”

I. What Does It Mean to Walk by Faith? 👣

Walking by faith means:

👉 Trusting God when you cannot see the outcome

👉 Believing God's promises over your circumstances

👉 Following God even when the path is unclear

👉 Depending upon His Word rather than your feelings

📖 2 Corinthians 5:7

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

Faith is not pretending problems do not exist.

Faith is believing that God is greater than your problems.

II. What Is Faith? ✝️

The Bible defines faith clearly.

📖 Hebrews 11:1

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Faith is:

👉 Trusting what God says

👉 Believing what God promises

👉 Acting upon God's Word

Even when you cannot see it.

III. Why Must We Walk by Faith? 🤔

1. Because Faith Pleases God

📖 Hebrews 11:6

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

God is pleased when we trust Him.

2. Because We Cannot Always See What God Is Doing

📖 Isaiah 55:8-9

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

God sees what we cannot see.

3. Because Circumstances Change

📖 Matthew 14:30

“But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid…”

Peter was successful while looking at Jesus.

He struggled when he focused on the storm.

4. Because God's Promises Never Fail

📖 Numbers 23:19

“God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it?”

God always keeps His Word.

IV. Peter's Walk of Faith 🌊

Peter gives us one of the greatest examples of faith.

1. Jesus Called

📖 Matthew 14:29

“And he said, Come.”

Faith begins when God speaks.

2. Peter Obeyed

📖 Matthew 14:29

“And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.”

Faith requires action.

3. Peter Looked Away

📖 Matthew 14:30

“But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid…”

Fear grows when faith loses focus.

4. Jesus Lifted Him Up

📖 Matthew 14:31

“And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him…”

Even when faith fails, Jesus remains faithful.

V. The 6 Keys to Walking by Faith 🔑👣

1. Priority — Put Your Trust in God

📖 Proverbs 3:5

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”

2. Persistent — Keep Believing

📖 Galatians 6:9

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

3. Purpose — Follow God's Plan

📖 Romans 8:28

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God…”

4. Plan — Stay in God's Word

📖 Romans 10:17

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Faith grows through Scripture.

5. Place — Keep Close to Jesus

📖 John 15:5

“I am the vine, ye are the branches…”

The closer you are to Christ, the stronger your faith.

6. Process — Keep Your Eyes on Jesus

📖 Hebrews 12:2

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…”

Faith flourishes when Jesus remains your focus.

VI. The Invitation — What Are You Trusting? ❓

When difficulties come:

👉 Will you trust your feelings?

👉 Will you trust your circumstances?

👉 Or will you trust God?

📖 Psalm 56:3

“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.”

VII. A Simple Prayer 🙏

“Father, help me to trust You completely.

When fear comes, strengthen my faith.

Help me keep my eyes on Jesus and not on the storms around me.

Teach me to walk by faith every day.

In Jesus' name, Amen.”

VIII. Your Walk Is Growing 👣

When you walk by faith:

👉 Fear loses its control

👉 God's promises become real

👉 Confidence in Christ grows

👉 Your relationship deepens

👉 You experience God's power in your life
