THE WALK

Lesson 20 — Walk Complete (Benediction)

Complete in Christ Until He Calls Us Home

Opening Question

If the Lord were to call you home today, could you honestly say:

 I have walked with Him

 I have trusted Him

 I have followed Him

I have finished my course faithfully

• Yes

• Mostly

• Not sure

• I need to recommit my walk to Him

Opening Prayer

“Father, thank You for every step of this journey. Thank You for saving us, teaching us, guiding us, correcting us, strengthening us, and loving us. Help us to continue walking faithfully with You until the day You call us home. Conform us into the image of Christ and help us finish well. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.”

Lesson Scripture

Colossians 2:9-10

“For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:”

Philippians 1:6

“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:”

I. What Does It Mean to Walk Complete?

Walking complete means:

 Living daily in Christ

 Depending upon Christ

 Growing in Christ

 Following Christ

 Finishing faithfully in Christ

The Christian life is not merely about beginning well.

 It is about finishing well.

Hebrews 12:1-2

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…”

II. We Are Complete in Christ

The believer does not become complete through:

 Religion

 Works

 Performance

 Self-effort

We are complete because of Christ.

Colossians 2:10

“And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:”

Everything we need is found in Him.

1. Complete in His Salvation

Hebrews 7:25

“Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him…”

2. Complete in His Righteousness

2 Corinthians 5:21

“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

3. Complete in His Grace

2 Corinthians 12:9

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee…”

III. Walking in His Word

Throughout this journey we have learned:

 God speaks through His Word

 God guides through His Word

 God strengthens through His Word

Psalm 119:105

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

Joshua 1:8

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth…”

His Word will continue guiding us until we see Him face to face.

IV. Walking in His Spirit

We are not left to walk alone.

The Holy Spirit lives within us.

Romans 8:14

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”

John 16:13

“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth…”

The Spirit:

 Leads us

 Teaches us

 Convicts us

 Comforts us

 Strengthens us

V. Walking in His Direction

God promises to guide His children.

Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Psalm 32:8

“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.”

We may not always know the next step.

But we can trust the One leading us.

VI. Walking in His Fellowship

God desires more than obedience.

 He desires fellowship.

1 John 1:3

“…that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.”

James 4:8

“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you…”

The Christian life is not merely serving God.

 It is walking with God.

VII. Walking in His Church

God never intended believers to walk alone.

Hebrews 10:24-25

“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together…”

Through His Church:

 We grow

 We serve

 We worship

 We encourage one another

 We fulfill His mission

VIII. Conformed Into His Image

The goal of the Christian life is not simply knowledge.

The goal is Christlikeness.

Romans 8:29

“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son…”

Every lesson in this series has pointed toward this truth:

 Becoming more like Jesus.

He Saves Us

Romans 10:13

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

He Teaches Us

John 14:26

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost… he shall teach you all things…”

He Grows Us

2 Peter 3:18

“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”

He Conforms Us

Romans 8:29

“…to be conformed to the image of his Son…”

He Receives Us Home

John 14:2-3

“In my Father's house are many mansions…

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself…”

IX. The Final Benediction

X. A Final Prayer

“Father, thank You for every lesson You have taught us. Thank You for saving us, leading us, protecting us, and loving us. Help us continue walking with You through Your Word, Your Spirit, Your direction, Your fellowship, and Your Church. Conform us into the image of Christ and keep us faithful until the day we stand before You. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.”

XI. Your Walk Continues

When you walk complete in Christ:

 You rest in His salvation

 You trust His Word

 You follow His Spirit

 You enjoy His fellowship

 You serve through His Church

 You grow into His likeness

 You finish faithfully

2 Timothy 4:7-8

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness…”
